Casio Synthesizer - Casio CZ-1

The mighty CZ-1.  Thought by many experts to be the best and most powerful of all of the FM (Sorry Yamaha, I meant PD) synths ever made.  Enjoy!

No. Although this and Yamaha's Phase modulation both involve altering phase - the mechanism and results are extremely different. PD is not a variety of FM/PM.

I wish people would actually listen to how different the instruments sound before saying they're the same technologies!

It also leads to Yamaha getting flack from people saying 'Casio took FM and did it right/much easier' when Casio's tech is very different and mostly considered easier because it's so much more simplistic.

Proving all of this is how PD generates linear amplitude spectra by default, hence everyone obsessed with emulating analogue synths liked it better than the Bessel-shaped spectra of FM/PM. It's not inherently better - just more familiar to those with preexisting expectations!

Btw I like PD and am seriously considering buying a CZ-1, so I'm not dissing - just correcting.
